Islam is known in the western literature for Slavery if nothing else. But what they don't understand is there use to be betting to get girls for marriage and things like that.

Islam just legitimized the betting, so that the people can have wives of their choice, plus servants that don't screw them-up or the Ruler can screw them up in return.
