In Sufism, there are Tariqahs that after monitoring give you the permission. And some others after you complete their studies give you the permission. Some give permission to just one, and the Shaykh remains one at a time. And all are bound to one Shaykh. And for others just going to a city or place and spending a night then leave is enough to square their presence, and that's enough for them.

In African and Hijazi Tariqahs, knowledge, traveling, squaring is important, yes. But that's not just about it. How far you get to go with your Permission depends upon how many lives you have spent in such, such and such places. I remember once I saw myself in India, hundreds of years ago, wearing yellow pundit clothing with a circle of devotees around. And I woke up to a woman holding a knife on me.

In Our Tariqah, you have to go through a process called Tarbiyyah. And the Shaykh that gives you the Tarbiyyah is your Shaykh al-Murabbi. The care taker, for now and forever. It depends on the Shaykh really to either take you through the hard way or just give you Allah in an instance. Although harder way is preferred because you can teach others as well.

There are different kind of Permissions for different people, considering their history. But even if one doesn't have their share of history gets enough to teach others. And certainly he or she becomes the leader in his Clan. There are plenty of Tijani Shaykhs available to teach but the center is in Senegal. And Shaykh Tijani Cisse is the Imam of the Grand Mosque and a wonderful Shaykh al-Murabbi.
